53 players made their way through the first snow of the year to Newmarket to try their luck in the second heat of the 404 9Ball Series. The day started with a calcutta that leaned toward John Morra and Eric Hjorleifson as the favorites, but there were other contenders in the field that were determined to have something to say about that.

As the day progressed the winners moved on and the losers became spectators, by day end 8 players remained to make the trip back for Sunday. The Sunday competition began with A-Side matches for Dennis Rhodes vs Eric Hjorleifson and Derek Claus vs Mario Morra. Those matches would produce 2 new B-Side contenders Derek and Dennis. Meanwhile the B-Side matches with Alex Radomski vs Andrew Attard and Robin Bass vs Eric Hildebrand would produce 2 new hill hill spectators…Alex and Eric.

Now with 6 competitors left, the anxiety builds.

Eric Hjorleifson would defeat Mario Morra for the A-Side finals at the same time that Dennis Rhodes sends Andrew Attard to the gallery and Robin Bass gives Derek Claus the opportunity to get home early. Now with 4 players left Robin Bass would make quick work of Dennis Rhodes leaving him to settle for 4th place. This sets up the B-Side final between Mario and Robin. Robin's cues were still smokin from the match with Dennis and Mario the warrior cannot get in front of Robins might. Mario settles for 3rd and Robin moves on to the final with Eric Hjorleifson. As the final match gets underway it seemed that the tides would turn for Robin who for most of match would remain comfortably in his chair while Eric would dominate the match. The end result Robin 4 and an undefeated Eric 10. Well done!

On the weekend of April 25-26 BigWigs in Newmarket, Ontario held the final event of the 2008-2009 404 series. I believe that all around this was the most successful and well received tour that has taken place as of yet in the Toronto area, in all roughly 200 different players participated in at least one event throughout the course of the year, with an average of close to 64 players per event.
