Montal 4th in Huge Reno Event
Scott Soroko, 12/10/2007 | Major Pro Events

Fresh off their appearance at the Canadian 9-Ball Tour in Ottawa Edwin Montal and Tyler Edey took on the big guns in Reno. Road partners and great friends our top two players from western Canada ventured south before heading home.

Both Edey and Montal had a great tournament but it would be Montal who'd place the highest. Edey would run into a hot shooting Gabe Ownen who played strong and kept him off the table as Edey would settle for 9-12th. One match later Montal would cool down Owen and send him home courtesy of a close 9-8 victory. Following that he would dominate Carl Wilson 9-2 on his way to a match with the young man considered the best player in the US right now Shane Van Boening.

His match with Shane would be close the whole way and with Edwin breaking at 7-7 he was in the drivers seat toward the finish line. However, a scratch on the break would prove costly as Van Boening went to work cleaning up the last two tables on his road to victory.

Strong play would not stop there for Van Boening and he would prove why he is considered the top player as he defeated Johnny Archer to claim the Reno Open title.

Congratulations Edwin on your 4th place finish and picking up $3000 in prize money!
