Derby City Classic Update
Scott Soroko, 1/9/2008 | Major Pro Events

Tyler Edey

As many of us work through the week a group of our Canadian friends are in Louisville, Kentucky competing in the games of the Derby City Classic. If you are not familiar with this tournament it's about 10 days long and includes a 9-Ball banks, 1 Pocket and 9-Ball events. Players competing in all the event will have a chance at the All Around title.

Possibly more impressive than the tournament is the amount of action matches taking place, they even have a room set aside just for players who are in action to match up. Lucky for everyone that can not attend some innovative and passionate pool enthusiasts have started a site called TheActionReport.com. What they are doing is filming and streaming live video from the action room for free. They are also having special pay per view events through the week, the last one had Jason Klatts better half Sarah Rousey and Monica Webb matched up for more than just bragging rights.

I encourage all of you to check this out, you will not be disappointed in the action, plus it runs 24/7 for there is no sleep at the Derby City Classic.

So you may be wondering who is down there from Canada, well here is a list of the ones I'm aware of. Alex Pagulayan, John Morra, Tyler Edey, Justin Kluznik, Jason Klatt, Stan Turangenau and Rachel Abbink.

Highlights for our players include some strong play by Morra and Edey in the ring games where 5 or more players match up to play rotation 10 ball and the winner of each game collects the cheese! Also Alex placed in the top 10 competing in the bank pool event which boasted over 300 players. Along the way he defeated US Open Champion Shane Van Boening, and John Schmidt twice. Though he has a loss Alex is still alive in the 1 pocket looking forward to a match with Efren Reyes next. Good luck guys!!

Tournament results can be found at AZBilliards.com and InsidePoolMag.com.

Match and Ring Game videos can be purchased at www.dcctickets.com. There is some free stuff there as well.

Wish I was there!!
