Millsy's Billiards

Amateurs Rule 10 Ball Ring Game

Millsy’s Billiards first ever 10 Ball Ring Game took place on Friday December 12 and turned out to be a great success. There was a definite buzz in the room on Friday night in anticipation of the 10 ball ring game since a lot people in this area had never seen or heard of this format and were eager to watch or play in the event. With 16 players for Millsy’s regular Friday night 9 ball tournament, 12 Ten Ball ring players and spectators alike it made for a great evening of pool.

Of the 12 players showing up to compete for the $800.00 prize money there were four top level players including John Morra, Chris Orme, Eric Hjloriefsen and Dan Doerner. Unfortunately for these players a 10 Ball Ring Game format is not the same as other games they play and none of these top players finished in the money.

The game started with two tables of 6 players each and was reduced until there was only 3 players left standing on one table. Through a combination of great play and a little bit of luck the three players left were Mike Patay, Tyler Nearing and Jesse Piercey. In the end there could only be one left standing and that would be Tyler Nearing who took first place money of $450.00 Mike Patay placed second and received $250.00 and Jesse Piercey won $100.00 for third place.

Millsy’s owner Neil Mills would like to thank everyone who came out on Friday night and would also like to announce that Millsy’s Billiards will now hold a 10 Ball Ring Game every month because of the interest shown in this first event with the next one being in January. Date to be determined.

Back to Back Johnny’s

Saturday December 13 saw 19 players show up for Millsy’s 6 and above handicap 9 Ball tournament with the guaranteed $750.00 first place money. Twelve of the 19 players played in the Friday night 10 Ball Ring Game and received a $20.00 discount on the entry fee. Millsy’s house pro Rob Brandenburg made some adjustments to some of the players handicaps for this tournament and it seemed to work out well as there were a lot of close matches throughout the day.

With top players Chris Orme, Eric Hjloriefson, Dan Doerner, John Morra and Rob Brandenburg in the field it made for a great day of competition. In the end it was again John Morra who came out on top. John’s biggest challenge of the day may have come in his first match against Paul Edgar of Kitchener which he won Hill-Hill. John beat Paul Duell of Guelph in the final 11-6. Paul had just come off a Hill-Hill match with Shawn Miller of Kitchener in the semi final.

Congratulations to all the players who finished in the money and thanks to everyone who showed up to play. Millsy’s next tournament will be in January.
